If it did, we would have both the front and rear doors watched.Unfortunately, though ...we scored sort of a hit on our first night of watching, we did not get enough of a description to do us any good. We knew that three men were involved in the vandalism, but it was too dark to get a description of any of them. Again, the attack was in a totally unexpected place. I wondered if the vandals were using a random number generator to pick. I got a couple of curious looks as I passed the bear around so each ofthem could get a closer look. They knew immediately that it held somesignificance, but it was also obvious that they didn't know what thatsignificance was."I was in a really bad car accident when I was 10," I told them. "I was inthe hospital for a while. My dad gave me a bear just like this one while Iwas there. Since then I have always hugged it tightly when life got hard.I've hugged it when I needed to find comfort. And. I wandered around looking through trash cans until I could find an old right work boot that somebody had thrown out. It fit, ok it was a little big, and they didn't match, but it was definitely better than having two left shoes.I wandered the East side looking for a better place to bunk. I knew there were the Municipal Lodging House and the Salvation Army shelter, as well as others. My mismatched shoes took me down Doyer Street. It was about 4 PM and the line for the shelter that had been set. We practiced moves that would have made a rubber band envious, with every twist and turn choreographed for maximum pleasure. Within the hour I lay beside her spent, utterly satisfied, holding dearly to the sensations, the feel of her skin, her touch, her kisses. The way she moved, was a show onto itself.
