Sam wrote asking for the appealto be heard at the earliest opportunity, so we heard the appeal thereand then. Our lawyer then duly turned down the appeal and I wrote aletter to Sam confirming the dismissal. It was brilliant. Neither of uscould have resigned without the lengthy notice but the dismissal wasinstant. Sam was free.I went back to. I felt very alone, and apparently so did Kathy. We found ourselves bumping into each other at social gatherings and randomly around town. I was feeling sorry for myself because of how Sue had treated me and Kathy was missing Bill. She was a great comfort to me and I looked forward to seeing her every chance I could. We would often speak of Bill and how his new job was going. On one occasion we made a plan to go and see him. I would pick her up after work on Friday and we would drive together to. "This meeting was slightly unusual in that it would be two meetings back to back. Usually, the first meeting was to finish up any outstanding non-controversial pro forma items before having the election; then the new council took over and they took up any new business.
