I wore my swim trunks and a T-shirt but when I got there, Doug had gone off for the day with his dad and had forgot to tell me. His mother, Kathy, was... lying there beside their pool in her bikini sunning when I stuck my head over their back fence."Come on in, Tom," Kathy offered. "Just because Doug forgot and isn't here doesn't mean you can't enjoy the pool. I needed some company anyway because there's no one here but you and me," Kathy said.I couldn't resist the offer and didn't intend to. He loved the open space and adored helping me work, so it wasn't unusual for him to ask to spend his weekends with Uncle Jake. The kid was 14 now, he'd be starting high school after this summer. All grown up now, in more ways than one. I practically crawled out of the truck and up to the house. My home, my hide away from all of the things I hated in the world, was now tainted. I swore I could smell the little bastard as I walked through the front door. Like pine trees and teenage-boy favored. I didn't even realise how much I'd drunk, or how late it was, until I got a very short text message from Sarah a few hours later just saying, 'Where the fuck are you?'I don't really remember much of the evening after that. I vaguely remembered throwing up on the floor of the hotel room once, maybe twice, but the rest of it was a blur. When I finally awoke in the morning, with a pounding headache, I was alone in the room with an angry note from Sarah informing me that she'd never been so. Too silent. When she went to the living room she didn't see her parents. No note was left. Confused she decided to make breakfast. After eating she called her mom on her phone, but no-one answered. Now really worried she went out to the police station. During her walk she noticed that nobody seemed to be in town except her. The police station off course, was also empty. She started to wonder if she was the last girl on earth now. When she was almost heard she heard a familiar noise: a dog.
