As he walked down Locust Street listening to a skipping CD player and staring down at the ground, he lets out a sigh and heads across the street into ...an empty parking lot. Scratching his head, he stares forward at the public library and heads toward the heavy glass doors. Parting them he lets out a cough and takes a look around. Planting his feet on the thin light carpet, he stares around at the thin metal bookshelves which are scattered about and darts toward the left and surreptitiously. Before he could answer, I feel my brother's tall presence next to me.“I was wondering what all the noise was about. Lea, you’re missing almost all the movie.” Leo glances up and down at Josh with a dismissive gaze while speaking.“Next week definitely, Lea. I’ve gotta get back to the restaurant.” Josh says turning swiftly on his heels back to his car.“Why do you always do that!” I slam the door behind Josh and push past Leo.“Do what?” he asks me innocently while he follows me to the couch.“You. ‘We use eggs, sometimes, too. But this is wonderful!’ – ‘You must have this all the time.’ I said. – ‘No! Who has time? It takes forever. And I don’t cook just for myself very often.’ – ‘Why did you make two pots?’ asked Beth. ‘It looks like a lot of food.’ – ‘One is lamb.’ I told her. ‘The second is vegetarian. For Darren.’ Darren was a vegetarian. Beth pinched my cheek, and then kissed me on the lips. ‘You’re a sweetheart.’ Christina was more restrained in her praise. ‘This is wonderful.. You’re with John now are you? Living in sin?”His tone this time surprised her: it wasn’t censorious, judgemental or resentful, but resigned and weary. For the first time she saw how gaunt he was, and she felt doubly guilty at that.“I’m sorry, Peter, but you provoke me,” she said. “And no, I haven’t ‘moved on’ as you put it.
