I looked out of the window; we were stuck in a traffic jam still inside the city. Sitting like that, staring outside the window, lost in my thoughts, ...I fell asleep.I woke up. Her head was resting on my shoulders and she was fast asleep. Careful not to disturb her, I didn’t move. It was dark outside now and the bus was running at its full speed. The lights inside the bus were switched off and everyone seemed to be asleep. But from whatever the light there was, mainly from the lights of vehicles. Light-headed, satisfied, and exhausted, she fell into unconsciousness. Jaleesha struggled to wake, the buzzer of her annoying alarm jolting her. She shivered, noting she had pushed her covers on the floor sometime during the night. Vacation huh? You got a little. You can sing?” he asked, hearing her massive heart quicken. Did the prospect excite her, perhaps?“Not for millennia, but yes, I can.”“Will you sing for me?” he added.“Why?”“I’d like to hear it, and it would help me get to sleep.”“I can lull you into a deep and untroubled sleep at will,” she replied. “Singing is not necessary for that.”“Well, I’d like to hear it all the same.”She seemed hesitant, afraid of doing more than her role required, perhaps.
